Andy is building his confidence and independence with the support of innovative technology.
Meeting his physio two years ago at a disability expo, Andy was drawn to the new technology and possibilities. Since then, he has worked closely with his physio Sam to build a program focused on independence, core strength and reducing falls risk. As someone who uses mobility crutches and has lived with spina bifida, these goals are deeply personal.
During his physio sessions, Andy has embraced new opportunities to rebuild his walking and strength. He uses the robotic Lokomat, a therapeutic device that allows Andy to practice safe, repetitive walking in a way that builds muscle memory, balance and endurance. He turns each session into a challenge, jokingly calling it his “walking competition,” and enjoys the interactive games that help keep him motivated and engaged.
Andy has noticed real changes. His endurance has improved, his core is stronger, and he feels more confident in his everyday life. Just as importantly, the mental health benefits have been significant, helping him stay positive and focused.
Andy uses his NDIS support to access physio sessions, allowing him to invest in his long-term health and independence. For Andy, it’s more than a therapy tool.
“It assists me to improve and maintain my ability and confidence to live my life to the fullest.”
