Andy’s journey to independence
Andy is building his confidence and independence with the support of innovative technology.
Meeting his physio two years ago at a disability expo, Andy was drawn to the new technology and possibilities. Since then, he has worked closely with his physio Sam to build a program focused on independence, core strength and reducing falls risk. As someone who uses mobility crutches and has lived with spina bifida, these goals are deeply personal.
Improving gym access for all
For Andrew, gyms should be places where everyone feels welcome, seen and supported. This belief is what drives his
involvement in the Strength in Diversity Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee is made up of people
with disability who have co-designed the Brotherhood of St. Laurence’s inclusive gym project, ‘Strength in Diversity’.

We spoke with a carer who attends our Wyndham Wellbeing Group and shares their experiences with us.
Joe Pascoe’s career as a poet all started when he was faced with a dilemma. In need of a wedding anniversary gift for his wife, and with no ideas coming to mind, he wrote a poem instead.
He has since released two poetry books through Melbourne-based independent publisher, Readings Sideway Press. His latest book, Frangipani, is a series of poems exploring nature, childhood, work and magic.
We chat with Steven Koutsodontis, author and Intake Officer at BSL Disability Services about his journey with MS and the inspiration behind his self-published book, A Conversation About Multiple Sclerosis with My Family.
